Supporting with maths
Our approach to teaching maths is to see it in the context of practical situations or 'problems' the more children make connections with the maths they learn at school to life at home the better. Spotting and using numbers, patterns and calculations around you will help the children to reinforce their maths skills. Also, involving the children when you are using the practical skills they learn in maths such as measuring, dealing with money and telling the time will support their learning.
We follow the Power Maths scheme which is set up for schools, which is aligned with the guidance provided by White Rose Maths. You can see the likely order of what will be covered and the methods and representations used to by the children at the white rose maths which is below.
Year 2 have access to both Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars which are aimed at improving their quick recall of key number skills, please enjoy these with the children at home.
